The first week of October I had the opportunity to travel to north Alabama and interview, film, and just hang out with some amazing musicians. The Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention is held every year on the first full weekend of October on the campus of Athens State University in Athens Alabama, and the event really has two sides; one is the competitions that take place over the two days, but then the other is the unscripted jam sessions that form up all over the campus. I've been several years, but never shot any video of the festival, this year however my cousin Michael Williams and his friends Houston Barbee, Andrew Walker, Cliff Bailey, and Brandon Bounds entered the Bluegrass Band category. Here is a very small slice of the festival, and Bluegrass music in general. Shot on a Nikon D3200, and edited in Adobe Premier.

I demonstrate the zoom and test the auto focus noise of the Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens. It is Nikon's most powerful zoom lens yet, with a 16.7x zoom range. VR Vibration Reduction Image Stabilization is turned on during this video. This lens is beautiful, amazing, heavy and big, but also quiet and smoother than it's predecessors.I have also noticed that the VR (vibration reduction) image stabilization on this lens works a bit better than the 18-200mm VR II lens and it no longer makes a click when it turns on and off, and it doesn't make a high pitched noise when it is on (the 18-200mm and the 18-55mm lens make a high pitched noise when the VR is on).
