Here is a quick sample I did with my D600 after having massive problems in direct sunlight when it (the sun) shone directly into the viewfinder. As I didn't have similar problems with any other camera before (Canon 5D Mark II/III, 7D, Nikon D3200 or Nikon D800) I contacted Nikon and they told me that it isn't supposed to be light tight and that I should use the eyepiece cover. They although can't tell me if it's normal for the D600 or not without seeing my camera. I tried the same test seen in this small video with a D800 on last weekend and guess what: no problems like this!
